Hey anyone! Christmas/New Year coming up and as per I’ve not said anything in forever, so here’s the obligatory musical/creative roundup of the year.
Anyone paying any attention to my Facebook page will have noticed its gone completely stagnant since January, apart from one quick post in August where I said I would no longer be performing solo.
Not 100% true, but I’ll get onto that later - first up, I’ve taken my songs forward into my new project, Men Fatale. We’ve played a couple of gigs and we’re finding it pretty alright so far.
Aren't we cute?
I don’t perform solo acoustic any more due to my wrist/skeletal conditions worsening to the point that I had to give up guitar - this happened Feb/March this year. Not going to lie, I was seriously down about it. But that was followed by the formation of my first proper band with a bunch of ridiculously talented musicians. So I’m happy enough.
I have (this might sound like a paradox re wrist stuff, bear with me) recently managed to start drawing again. I’ve done this using primarily shoulder movements, holding the pen in a different way to alleviate stress. This has been wonderful, as I’ve been completely unable to draw for at least a year prior to this.
^ Angel Haze. I really like drawing musicians for some reason.
Guitar, too, I am working on. For me, this means learning almost from scratch in order to eliminate “bad” muscle memory. This kind of thing can cause issues even in able-bodied people so in my case its fairly essential. I’m juggling a million things I want to do, so it’ll be a slow, if hopefully steadily process. But for the moment at least, assume no more acoustic stuff from me - but there will be plenty coming from Men Fatale.
I still perform spoken word, and am resolving to do more of that (and to just write more). At the moment, I can use a laptop without many issues, so may even venture into some related but entirely new genres as a solo project… but won’t say too much more about that - still very much in the concept stage.
I’ve collaborated some more with James Cronin - most recently he did a fun cover of Last Christmas not-inspired-by-anyone-in-particular-at-all for which I provided vocals, you can take a listen to that below.
Just made a Tumblr and became active on DeviantART, so feel free to follow me there. Also on Instagram if that’s more your thing. Motivated and inspired at the moment and aiming to keep that going. Happy holidays and see you in the new year with a bunch of new creative stuff.
